Dave and his mum were great hosts and made us feel very welcome, The room was very clean and upto date and breakfast was superb. although these rooms are above the pub they do keep strict hours so you are assured of a peaceful nights sleep. Would highly recommend this place if you are looking for out of town acommadation.
Nothing, Great place to stay and the pub food looked great including a grand carvery.

the location was convenient, just in front of the establishment, and easy to find. the staff was friendly and helpful, and the room was comfortable and well equipped. the breakfast was good with a variety of options. there was some noise from the nearby street that could be heard in the room. I had a pleasant stay, but the noise level could be improved.

The Newmarket Inn is under new ownership (past 18 months). Ownership is on-sight, overseeing the daily operations: they care about the place and the overall service is excellent. The single room was small (expected) but comfortable and clean. The food was excellent: good pub fare and a delicious carvery. I was walking the South Downs Way and they kindly gave me toast and coffee on-the-go as I had to leave early prior to main breakfast. I wouldn't call this a 'family establishment' but for someone doing business in the area (just outside Lewes) or on a walking trip or weekend outing (about a 10 minute walk off the South Downs Way) the Newmarket Inn is a superb and affordable choice.
(Not really complaints, just comments) The Newarket Inn is on a main road leading out of Lewes toward Brighton, thus it might get a bit noisy for rooms facing the road. For walkers, it can be a bit tricky to get to as you need to navigate or avoid crossing the main road - use a good map which indicates where the South Downs Way and public paths intersect, avoiding the main road altogether; this via a bridge and public path.
